Global Launch of BlackBerry 9220 In India.

(Katrina Kaif With BlackBerry 9220)
Long back in 2009 when the BlackBerry Curve 8520 was introduced, competing with the mid-range phones. It slowly established a strong hold over the market with its Messenger (BBM) and Mail services. Since then its pricing has been made more competitive and the 8520 has been popular with people and has set a different trend and is the best selling phone in the Indian market. And today BlackBerry is no longer only for the 'office guys'.

The Canadian phone maker Research In Motion (RIM) on Wednesday launched a new smart phone, BlackBerry Curve 9220. This is the first time a global launch of a BlackBerry smart phone has taken place in India. The RIM officials believes that India is a key-growth area for them as they are now targeting youth population. The BlackBerry Curve 9220 comes with the latest BlackBerry OS 7.1, it has FM Radio, and a dedicated key for the BlackBerry Messenger (Which was very much needed). It is sleeker and 1.2m thinner than the BlackBerry 8520. The display and the track-pad remain the same.

It seems that the RIM has heard our voices of BBM users and has now made typing much easier by increasing the size of the keys and a slight change in design have been made. The media buttons om the top of BlackBerry 8520 have gone missing in the BlackBerry 9220 and a small pause button has been added to the volume keys which means music lovers who are used to dedicated music keys may have a problem here. Most importantly, RIM claims that the BlackBerry 9220 has an improved battery life as compared to other BB phones.

If you already own a BlackBerry 8520 or familiar with it,  the new BlackBerry 9220 may not amuse you. The BlackBerry 9220 will be available in the markets by Thursday, purchasing it will make you poorer by Rs.10,990 but richer by a some new features .The company is also offering many free applications with the phone including games, pencil camera, photo studio pro and horoscope oracle till June 30, 2012.

To summarize it all, the new BlackBerry 9220 is an upgrade to the BlackBerry 8520 with a slimmer body, dedicated and larger keys, an updated OS with FM Radio. So, if your planning to buy the BlackBerry 8520, you may want to purchase a BlackBerry 9220 instead.
